The carry-on luggage is great with lots of space and is easy to access. I used this product on a 10 day trip to Peru, including a 3 day excursion to Machu Picchu, and I was able to fit everything I needed. The carry on is surprisingly slim whenever it's completely full and I had no issues fitting it into any plane's overhead, unlike my normal carry-on suitcase. I do wish the suitcase had 4 wheels instead of 2, but that is minor. I did not need to use the backpack function of the carry-on suitcase on this trip, but it would have been really helpful during my last trip to Italy. I have a bad back and cannot do a duffel bag/backpack combo or something that would require me to carry it on my back the entire time, so that is why I really liked this product.
The detachable backpack, however, was less than what I expected it to be. The zipper is sometimes difficult to use and the opening cannot be opened very wide which makes it difficult to sift through the backpack unless what you need is on top. I had a folder in the back with all of our documents/itinerary and it was a pain to pull it out/put it back in. Once the backpack is full it is also difficult to add anything in the front pocket (also wish that could be zipped closed) because the backpack does not stretch or have any give. It is slightly cumbersome to attach the backpack to the carry-on, but in the end I did not have to do that a lot. Although the backpack does not hold a lot and is not easy to use, I did fit everything I needed for the 3 day excursion to Machu Picchu (packing very lightly). It does not have a lot of small pockets or place to hold things such as phone/money/chapstick/hand sanitizer etc. so I wore a small sling bag in conjunction with the backpack for the Machu Picchu leg of the trip which worked out perfectly. I also really love the whistle function on both the carry-on and the backpack. For my next trip, I know I will bring the carry-on but I have not decided if I will bring the backpack yet.

Comments about Eagle Creek Smoky Blue DoubleBack™ Carry-On Suitcase:

Love Eagle Creek and would buy this item in a heartbeat IF the handle was two-pronged. Single-pronged handles are hard on the hands and make it painful to carry bag over long distances. Love the small detachable backpack and its details.

Comments about Eagle Creek Smoky Blue DoubleBack™ Carry-On Suitcase:

I ordered this bag about one year ago and have used it several times for international travel. In general, it is not my primary luggage but it comes in very handy and is quite versatile. The bag has lots of storage space and plenty of compartments with nice features. My only grievances with this bag are that the zippers can be finicky sometimes (difficult to open/close) and the detachable, smaller backpack is cumbersome to attach to the main bag. As a backpack, the bag is not particularly comfortable but it serves its purpose. Nevertheless, the bag's versatility and ample storage convince me to use it for most trips. I highly recommend this bag.

Comments about Eagle Creek Smoky Blue DoubleBack™ Carry-On Suitcase:

I purchased this carry-on for a trip to Italy this fall, I have not yet used the main bag but did recently use the smaller daypack for a 9.5 mile hike and was pleased with how comfortable it fit. I have a slender build and often find backpack straps uncomfortably wide over the shoulder, these straps were neither too wide or too narrow (which can feel like it cuts in to the shoulder with a heavier load). I was able to fit enough water for myself and 2 dogs as well as lunch, small first aid kit, bear spray, extra shirt and a few additional personal items without difficulty. I barely noticed the pack apart from it trapping body heat/sweat, which is not unexpected with hiking in Sunny 70 degree weather. Overall appears to be well made and of quality material. I have high expectations this bag will perform well for several years. I rated 4 stars since I haven't used the main bag yet.
