This was an upgrade...my previous EC was unrepairable so they gave me a (generous) credit towards this bag. LOVE this bag. Light weight. Simple roominess. The hardpan adds a lot of durability to it. I travel frequently (United 1K for all of this bags life) and it is great for a week long trip. I can go longer from it if needed.

Things I would like to see changed: It doesnt handle dress jackets well...so a garment bag is needed for those trips. There is not a good way to protect the zippers...I have lost several (lost the Eagle Creek badge on the first trip!). The piggyback clip is not attached in a good place, so hanging a second bag or briefcase REALLY pulls on the bag (I would have thought they would have attached it to the hardpan some way).

The true test - IMHO - if this bag were to have a catastrophic failure, or spouse/friend needed a bag, I would not hesitate buying another...

Looks good but please be aware, completely empty this bag is 7 pounds 6 ounces. Not sure where the other 6 ounces are but if you are on a very tight weight limit, be aware... (and yes, I did test it on several commercial scales)...

UPDATE: 3/21/15. I purchased this product in July of 2014. While light weight, within 2 trips (Delta), the case had a crack in the plastic. I figured it was a fluke and kept using it. I taped it up (inside and out) and kept going. The next trip, the logo tag was riped off so I taped it so it would not tear, then, in January of this year, the stitching on one side started to come loose. I taped that up and now, on this last trip, the end has a 5" crack in the plastic. Basically, this case is trashed. (and I did NOT over pack it and I only fly Delta).

If you are looking for a "lifetime" case, this is NOT it. I'm going to send it off (at MY expense) to the repair center and we will see what they say. If it is anything but total replacement, I will be back here to report it.

As a professional that travels 40+ weeks of the year, I can NOT recommend you purchase this case based on my experience.

Safe Travels.

Comments about Eagle Creek EC Adventure Hybrid 25:

Two updates to my April review:

As suggested in Eagle Creek's response, the company has shipped a new replacement bag. My compliments for excellent warranty support.

Second, the replacement bag is a modified design. The polycarbonate shell of the old bag cracked. As an engineer I suspect the crack started at a stress riser where the fabric was sewn into the plastic shell. The new bag has a plastic bead all around the plastic/fabric joint. I cannot tell what is underneath, but perhaps this will reduce the chance of cracking.

Comments about Eagle Creek EC Adventure Hybrid 25:

My wife and I have owned two of these bags for 14 months, and for the first time we are disappointed in a Eagle Creek product... and we own many of them.

The good news: An airline dropped one of the bags in New Zealand and damaged a wheel. On our return i shipped it back under warranty and the wheel was replaced. Nice job Eagle Creek.

The bad news: The other bag, which has not been abused, developed a crack in the polycarbonate shell near the pull-out handle. It is a great hassle to find a big box and ship it back to Eagle Creek so I will probably do a 'battle field repair' using tape inside the interior liner.

I was drawn to the luggage by the prospect of saving almost two pounds of empty weight compared to the soft nylon version. We have two of these, which must be fifteen years old or more - predecessors to the Tarmac 25. Both of the bags are completely serviceable, just worn, after untold thousands of miles of travel and abuse. I don't think the Hybrid 25 with its polycarbonate shell would last a fraction of the nylon bags useful life.

I hate to think of the Hybrid 25 as a relatively short-lived disposable suitcase but I am inclined to move back to the Tarmac 25 next time and accept the higher empty weight.

Comments about Eagle Creek EC Adventure Hybrid 25:

I'm a frequent traveler with spends 4-5 nights in the same location. I never carry on and this luggage handles all my gear. This luggage travels easily from baggage claim to rental car. This size is right on for multi day needs. I've only had the luggage a few weeks but it is handling the airline baggage crew abuse very well.

      Zipper Slider Durability :((

Comments about Eagle Creek EC Adventure Hybrid 25:

The exposed "Metal Zipper Slider" and "Zipper Tab" on the main compartment expansion zipper has failed! Never used the expansion zipper, however it has been sheared off and destroyed half way through a six week trip. Now I can only hope that the exposed "open" expansion zipper survives the next three weeks (and multiple airline flights).

Product has the "No Matter What" warranty ... but the location of the "Zipper Slider" on the main compartment expansion zipper has proven to be a problem.

At least the main compartment zipper slider (vs the expansion zipper slider) did not fail in the Australian Outback.

Comments about Eagle Creek EC Adventure Hybrid 25:

This suitcase is just what I needed. I travel overseas regularly to developing countries so wanted something that would hold up, not be too big, and not stand out as ostentatious. I still use a smaller Eagle Creek carry-on that I bought 15 years ago.

The only disappointment in this new one is that it doesn't have a lot of clever little extras like the old carry-on's detachable knapsack and pockets everywhere inside and out. (Maybe there are other models that have these features still but I didn't see them.)

Overall, this suitcase is better than the inexpensive one I was using till now from another manufacturer, and yet is comparable to much more pricey brands.

Comments about Eagle Creek EC Adventure Hybrid 25:

The measurements that come with this suitcase accurately describe the inside measurements. I also ordered the 4-wheel upright, which had the same advertised measurements, and the inside was much smaller. That was very disappointing. I think Eagle Creek should advertise the inside measurements, since that is the space you are packing.
