This product is very nice and I love the combo of daypack/carry-on. It's very little weight and rest very comfortably on my back, both the day and combo pack, feeling sturdy at all times. I currently have had only excellent experience with this bag, but am worried about the use of Velcro for sustaining the shoulder straps for both packs. You receive one par of straps that are interchangeable between both packs fasten with Velcro at the top. I am not feeling to confident that after a few trips and a few years of use that the Velcro will age well. I really hope I'm wrong. You will also be missing a large mesh pocket that you seem to find in most luggages.

As you can see in the video the larger luggage is never opened, yes there is a picture so maybe I should have looked closer, nor do they show you how the straps are tethered from bag to bag leaving me feel they left out some very important information for the video.

Overall I really do enjoy this bag and would recommend it to anyone traveling and wanting a combo daypack/carry-on but can only give it 8 ½ out of 10 because of the few cons below.

Pros:
- Lightweight
- Comfortable while carrying (both packs)
- Lots of room for goods
- Product seems very sturdy and of good quality (except for the use of Velcro)
- You don't have to check it in while traveling
- Very stylish and does look more like a large backpack then luggage

Cons:
- Use of Velcro (won't know for a few year for sure)
- No mesh pocket inside large bag
- Daypack side pockets aren't meshed so any water bottle will fall out.

Well, I should have returned the bag, but I decided to keep the extra and use it it for business travel--a decision I regret now.

I gave the other one to my boyfriend for his birthday, and have been embarrassed about the quality ever since. We have been so disappointed by the switchback, worse than what we would have been if this was the first piece of luggage we'd purchased from Eagle Creek. We would have assumed all bags were this poor quality, and just chalked it up to a loss--but seeing how awesome my first switchback was, I knew this was not the case, and some poor choices (likely for cost savings during manufacturing) took an awesome bag, and rendered it useless.

I used mine once, and it has sat in my closet ever since. The strap on the backpack broke after 2 hours of use, and the bag never stood upright. It falls over regardless of whether the backpack is attached to the handle or not. The dimensions aren't the same, I couldn't even pack it the same as my other switchback. I've gone back to using the switchback I bought from you guys in 2011 and aside from the pulls missing and some stains on it, it still is in perfect shape. That bag has never let me down. I can't say that for the new ones I purchased. My boyfriend has been very disappointed in his bag too, it doesn't pack like my old one, and also refuses to stand up. He doesn't use the backpack because the straps are flimsy and he doesn't want them to break on him while he's on the road, and deal with the awkward carry until the trip is over. I raved about your products to him, but feel like I got robbed on the last purchase. More than $800 in luggage, and I resorted back to an old model, and we've talked about how his travelpro is better for his weekly business travel. You guys can do (and have done) better than this.

What can be done to make these bags useable, or upgrade to a different model that isn't suffering from the same quality and design flaws?

Comments about Eagle Creek Switchback™ Carry-On:

I'm a big fan of Eagle Creek, and generally they have top quality gear. My wife and I recently purchased a new set of Eagle Creek luggage. We have been extremely happy with the other products, but there is a major design flaw with this product -- IT CONSTANTLY FALLS OVER.

I've tried packing it in various different ways, moving the heavier items to the back, or to a lower center of gravity, but this bag just cannot stand up straight on its own. This is especially an issue while travelling as it falls over and gets dirty picking up the debris of train stations, airports, etc... The bag has a good use of space and it high quality, but not worth it because of this fundamental design flaw. Pick a different model.

Comments about Eagle Creek Switchback™ Carry-On:

I've only had this a few days. IMmediately my disappointments are that:

            - The wasit strap does not work with the day pack. I fashioned one using some caribeeners, a couple straps and some buckles but it's not nearly as comfortable as the cushy one on the big pack. Seems like it wouldn't take much engineering to make that design leap.

            - What is with backpacks with pockets too small for real water bottles? The video described pockets for water bottles. I carry a relatively small one everywhere, a .5 L Camelback, and it is so close to fitting it's maddening! Give me *one more inch* on that pocket! Or even an open pocket with net and tension strap so I can not only fit it, but reach for it on the fly. As they're currently designed, I'm afraid to leave my bottle in there because it may fall out. And me on the trail with no water is not a good thing. I got another caribeener and have tried attaching it in various places...the back of the daypack has handy loops but i could feel it swaying as I walked. You can also "secure" it in the side pocket with a beener attached to a side strap. ultimately the most comfortable spot for water seems to be attached to a front strap.

The day pack seems more comfortable than many - nice and cushioned.

            The overall design is clever.

The handle opens tall, which my 6' 3" partner may find useful.

I have no use for the bottle opener. Just adds weight. Ditch it for an interchangeable waist strap!

Comments about Eagle Creek Switchback™ Carry-On:

I bought this bag after much research into good brands with good warranty and I obviously didn't mind paying a higher price for it. I bought it for my year long trip around the world and its sad to say I am disappointed.

To start with it tips over regardless of weather it has the day pack attached to it or not. Secondly and this was the biggest flaw for me, The pin (the bottom piece of the zipper which holds the two zippers together) fell off, making it impossible for the zipper to work. Such a tiny little piece at the bottom incapasitates the whole thing. On one of my stops around the world I took it to a repair center but because it was December they said it wouldn't be ready until after January due to the holidays, unfortunately that meant I couldn't leave it there to get it fixed since I was moving to the next country.
Will try to get it fixed when I get to Australia which is the next country with a repair center.

In summary for the price of this piece I just can't understand these very basic flaws, which are making my trip more challenging at times. The unfortunate thing is that the rest of the bag is pretty good aside from these very important things which downcast the good. Dissapointed.

Comments about Eagle Creek Switchback™ Carry-On:

Excellent quality overall - lightweight, water resistant, pretty well designed. Great rollers, sturdy build. A few major flaws - Backpack strap broke second day of use, poor stitching, backpack has no waist belt, and is not well adjustable for back length. Slip panel for handle carry is useless given design, and way it makes bag tip over constantly. Water bottle panel not usable.

Most of these things have easy fixes / improvements. In fact bought small mountaineering pack in Switzerland, and "retired" the one that came attached as useless by 3rd day. Also bought another universal attachment device and modified it.
Really like the main bag in most ways.

Comments about Eagle Creek Switchback™ Carry-On:

Bought two of these for my muse and me for a multi country, two week, planes, trains, driving and hiking trip. I could put both day packs, using the slip sleeves on the day packs, on opposite sides of the extended handle on one main bag and comfortably race through train stations and hoist the entire unit on trains, enabling my smaller female counterpart to handle one main pack, and a smaller sundries bag very efficiently, (and by the way it solves the tipping over problem referenced when only one pack is slipped over the handle). Water resistance came in handy, no leakage in heavy downpours, rolling capability and quality is very high. Not so the back pack straps. Poorly designed, poor ergonomically, no hip belt when used on day packs, and poor stitching quality resulted in one day pack in a huge puddle in front of the Louve, when an entire strap gave way, inexcusable design and execution - don't believe designers ever used their product with the idea that it really needs to adequately function with the straps....I could improve it drastically with a few tweaks...there are also design errors relative water bottle carriage and access points, but overall the product is a good one.

" There are two types of Traveler. Thoes who travel light and thoes who wish they did "

I travel a lot. If you need a dependable bag then this is it. You get what you pay for. You don't want to be across the blobe with a broken zipper. The is 100% guarantee and it is one tough bag. Great features. It looks good in economy up to first class. Looks good in a hostle or 5 star hotel. It is dependable and has excellent features. Back pack is great carring it for a mile or two over cobblestone streets and catching a bus a mile away. You don't look like a dork rolling a bag down a dirt path.
If you are a kid starting out traveling then this is a bag for you. Buy it once and it will last you for years. Your last bag you'll buy. Check out the Doubleback too 22 inch. At least it is in blue. Similar in design.
I traveled with this bag around the world three times. The last time I took one pair of jeans, 3 t shirts and three pairs of underwear and a polo type shirt. All drip dry except the jeans. This is a bag for you.
