I bought the Eagle Creek Systems Go Duffel Pack (60 L) for another trip I was going to make to Costa Rica and Nicaragua. As with other Eagle Creek products, I am happy with the purchase, and so far, the bag has come through with flying colors.

When I saw the Systems Go pack on the Eagle Creek web site, I decided it was worth giving it a try, because I was looking for a back pack (without wheels) that would hold up to one month's worth of stuff, and hold up to buses and transfers in third world countries. This pack hasn't let me down, and still looks new. I am also not worried about the contents getting wet, even though it is the rainy season because of the water resistant outer lining. The zippers are very strong, and the loops on the main zippers make it easy to close the bag up, even when it is wedged full of clothes. The bag itself has a very clean streamlined appearance (at least in black) and doesn't even look like a back pack when the handles aren't attached.

The Systems Go pack is easy to pack, though honestly, it does seem a little smaller than 60 litters. Having said that, it did fit everything I needed for three weeks, and the full length zippers that make the bag easy to open, also means you have to do a little judo with it to close it up. Once you have it packed, using the compression straps seem to guarantee that the zippers will not break because of tension.

The removable straps attach quickly, which is nice when you pick your bag up from the baggage carousel at your destination. The side compartment available to stow the removable straps is even nicer, because it makes stowing them away quick, and will guarantee that the straps won't get ripped or ruined in transit. The side grab handle makes it easy to grab your bag without the back pack straps being attached.

There are two drawbacks to the pack's design that Eagle Creek might want to take into consideration. One, the "sleeping bag" compartment seems too small. I tried cramming in a light weight warm weather sleeping bag, and it was impossible. Even if you have no intention of bringing a sleeping bag, that compartment is nice for muddy shoes and dirty clothes, and should be bigger. Two, the two grab loops on the top of the bag are very small, except for people with exceptionally skinny fingers.

Suggestion for users:

Buy Pack It cubes if going through customs in underdeveloped countries. The cubes make it easy to repack your bag after the customs officials manually inspect it, so you can get on your way.

Suggestion for Eagle Creek:

Make the grab loops at the top of the bag larger. My hands are not huge, and I still had trouble getting four fingers into either one of those loops. Make the sleeping bag compartment larger to accommodate more stuff, including a sleeping bag.

Comments about Eagle Creek Systems Go Duffel Pack 60L:

This bag is very small. You can probably only fit 2/3 the stuff in a hard sided medium sized samsonite suitcase. Quality seems decent but way over priced for what it is. You could easily carry this bag on an airplane. Maybe if it was totally stuffed would they make you check it. If you are traveling for more than a week unless you are a minimalist it is to small.

Comments about Eagle Creek Systems Go Duffel Pack 60L:

Bought this for a 2 week trip to Europe, along with the pack-it system and I was able to fit everything I needed and more. I liked that I could open it like a duffel to be able to find which cube I need quickly, but also put things I needed at the top to quickly grab while on the go. I was worried about the size, being both too small for a 2 week trip and too big for my frame, but it worked perfectly.

Comments about Eagle Creek Systems Go Duffel Pack 60L:

What a great bag, it's very well made with an extremely well thought out and useable design. The pack-it system takes the pack to the next level, although it can actually fit a total of 6 full cubes, or 5 cubes and a shoe cube. It's the perfect system for backpacking around Europe, and I could not have been happier with the product.

Comments about Eagle Creek Systems Go Duffel Pack 60L:

My work takes me to small villages in rural Cambodia, Kenya, and other off the map locations, and to large cities like London for conferences. I needed a bag that could carry my gear to go camp in the middle of nowhere and also carry my stuff on the trains through Europe.

This duffel is the perfect bag. I've had it for a year a still looks brand new. It's suspension system stows away easily, but when I need to carry as a backpack - completely comfortable. I have checked it several times and its never been damaged, so long as the straps are stowed. I can throw it on a bus roof, tie it to a donkey, carry it on my back for miles, all with ease. The adjustable suspension means my 6'2" friend can fit into it, and I can fit into it at a petite 5'0". That's impressive, as most bags won't fit someone as short as me and still fit a taller person.

The inside compartment looks smaller than it really is. I use EC packing cubes and find that after you've put the packing cubes in, there's still space around the outside of the cubes to stuff all sorts of items - flip flops, jackets, a small bag of toiletries, etc. Although this makes the bag lose its nice column shape a little, it allows me to actually fit 60L worth of gear. I think there would be a lot of wasted capacity if you only used the cubes. The locking zippers are the icing on the cake, as are the compression straps on the sides and bottom (perfect for a tent), and the daisy chain loops on the front. This bag can take me and my tent + gear to Zambia one weekend, and into a fancy hotel in NYC the next.

One added bonus of this bag is that if you don't fill it up entirely, you can sometimes get it on as a carry-on for flights. Although technically I think its too big, I bought an extra cinch strap to wrap from the top to the bottom, cinch it down to shorten the bag, and can get it on most Europe flights. But that's only if you don't fill to capacity.

Accessibility is great. I wanted a bag that wasn't a top loader, and this bag can be opened all the way up to get at anything you want. Or you can just open the top, or unzip a side to get something quickly at the top or edge of your bag. The separate bottom compartment has come in handy many times for shoes, wet clothes, or other items. The fact that it can be unzipped, turning the bag into one large space, is great.

One downside to this bag is that it is less comfortable to carry for long distances as a backpack if you don't pack it right. There is no internal frame, so if you just stuff a lot of oddly shapes items into it and try to use it as a longterm backpacking bag, it can be hard on your back. However, I don't usually have this problem because there is some really nice padding on the back that helps the bag keep its shape. Plus, I love using packing cubes, and put those along the 'spine' of the bag to hold its shape, so I can carry it for a few hours or more no problem. But this isn't a hiking backpack.

If you need a nice, secure, sleek bag that will help you move from a campsite to a hostel, a conference to a safari, this is the bag. A sturdy, rain resistant, comfortable backpack/duffel.

In Africa on lots of small planes where bag weight and ability to squeeze into small spaces was most important. I cannot believe I did three weeks with 21 lbs and it worked great! Bag held up just fine. Also, used the packing system and it was awesome!

Comments about Eagle Creek Systems Go Duffel Pack 60L:

I use this as luggage for the airlines, not for outdoors/camping/backpacking activities. It is great because it holds a ton of stuff, has compartments for separating shoes from clean clothing, and is light weight. Fits nicely in the overhead bin of the plane. My main gripe is that when you remove the back pack straps to use it as a duffel, the side handle is really awkward and the back pack strap attachments dangle.
