Great bag! This was a no-brainer for me, as I love Eagle Creek. My bigger, check size bag is the FlipSwitch and it's terrific. So when I wanted a new carry-on, I chose the Tarmac and I love it. Lightweight, lots of capacity and very sturdy and durable. I am a travel writer and travel and write for a living, so having the right gear is of utmost importance. You can't go wrong with this bag!

The wheels on my bag disintegrated. Eagle Creek's website has some replacement parts and nice videos for how to replace wheels on most models. Unfortunately, the wheels for this model were not listed. It took several go-rounds with their customer service to find the right wheels. This concluded when I sent the wrong ones back and included the disintegrated wheels. They sent the proper ones afterwards. See photo. The head guy was apologetic and claimed he had never heard about the wheels needing to be replaced on their products. See Photo.

Good news: It took ten minutes to replace them, thanks to the video posted on their website for a similar product. My much less expensive REI bag, the one with more miles and a much lower price tag, served me well during these events.

Bad news: Cost $ and took a long time to get the right wheels. Their website still doesn't list correct replacement part.

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac 22:

I've been using a 20" suitcase from Rick Steves for the last umpteen years. It's still in good working order but I wanted something a tiny bit bigger and with easier access to the contents. The Tarmac 22 fits the bill nicely and is, if anything, better made than my old suitcase. The mesh divider in the lid accepts Eagle Creek's garment bag ... it's a bit tight, but it fits. I almost never travel with a suit or sport jacket but for those times when I must, this'll be a huge help.

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac 22:

We travel a lot, frequently internationally, and we always go carry-on even for a 3-4 week stay. The bag is new and only used on one 5-day trip so far, but was great. Seems small, but somehow holds a lot. I like the quality and numerous extra thought that went into its design (see the video). I reserved a star because I don't yet know how it will hold up over time. Stay tuned. :)

      Falling apart at the seams

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac 22:

I bought my Eagle Creek Tarmac 22 through Skymiles Marketplace last November and received in December 2014. I use this bag as a carryon for my frequent business travel. In less than a year the outside compartment interior lining of the bag has come apart at the seam. I have called E/C customer support and they have said that I need to send the bag to one of their service centers for repair or replacement and it takes up to a month to get the bag back! I fly at least two trips per month and cannot afford to be without this bag for a month. This bag should not have come apart in this short period of time and I think it is clear that there is a defect in the workmanship of the bag. Looking at the other reviews there is another customer that complained that their bag came apart at the seam –so it seems that there is a problem with some of this model of bag. I have spoken with customer support and left a message with their repair supervisor – Jose – but have not heard back from him as of yet. I also sent an email with pictures to customer service and warranty with no reply. Perhaps I will get some type of response by posting this review. If not for the interior seam coming apart the bag is ok.

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac 22:

I bought this suitcase for a lightweight carryon and "small airplanes overseas" suitcase in October 2013. Initially I was very happy with it, but this year I have had great difficulty with the zippers. They haven't broken, but have stuck. I can't get the expansion one closed, and on my last two extended trips overseas I frequently had great difficulyy getting the main zipper to close on the corner where material is fraying, and occasionally had trouble getting it to open at the same spot. I now consider it useless for any trip out of the country. I always had good luck with Eagle Creek products in the past, but am very disappointed with this one.

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac 22:

This is a well made and durable bag. It has useful compartments and sleeves, including a zippered pocket in front for a tablet. I opted for the 2-wheel Tarmac 22 vs the 4-wheel AWD version, as the 2-wheel has slightly more room. But it does make it a little harder to wheel in a confined space such as the airplane aisle. Recessed handle has two positions; convenient "holding strap" securely holds an extra bag or coat stacked on top. Side and top handles make it easy to lift and carry when not rolling along. Zipped divider inside holds a Pack-it Sleeve or folded clothes. Only slight cons: To keep within airline approved measurements, do not overstuff the bag. I left the tablet pocket in front empty, in fact (put tablet in my underseat bag which was more convenient anyway), as my clothing in the bag proper filled the bag to the limit of allowed measurement. Keep your tape measure handy to be sure!

I use this bag at least twice a month for travel to Asia and South America on trips up to 6 weeks. Amazing how much stuff you can shove into this bag even without unzipping the second zipper. It has taken plenty of abuse and just continues to stand up. One gets attached to their bag and if not carried on always glad to see the pale green bag on the conver belt. This is one tough piece of luggage

I have had one of these for years and years (and years)! It is, hands down, one of the best ever! Multiple international vacations in addition to domestic trips. It is rugged, durable, good looking, holds a lot. Thanks to Eagle Creek and the 22 tarmac I've got my packing down to a science and its so easy to pack for a trip, whether long or short! I'll never buy another kind of suitcase.

I use this bag for business trips and it has been great. It carries every thing I need for a week long business trip without an issue. The construction of this bag is great. It is very sturdy and I am sure it will last a long time.

My only complaint about this bag is packing it as suggested with the Eagle Creek Pack It system. The website gives you a suggestion for packing this bag and what products are required. I purchased all of recommended Eagle Creek products but they do not fit in the bag as shown. They will all fit if you make some changes such as putting the folder in the front compartment. Unfortunately that makes the front outside pocket of the bag very tight.
