Great bag! This was a no-brainer for me, as I love Eagle Creek. My bigger, check size bag is the FlipSwitch and it's terrific. So when I wanted a new carry-on, I chose the Tarmac and I love it. Lightweight, lots of capacity and very sturdy and durable. I am a travel writer and travel and write for a living, so having the right gear is of utmost importance. You can't go wrong with this bag!

The wheels on my bag disintegrated. Eagle Creek's website has some replacement parts and nice videos for how to replace wheels on most models. Unfortunately, the wheels for this model were not listed. It took several go-rounds with their customer service to find the right wheels. This concluded when I sent the wrong ones back and included the disintegrated wheels. They sent the proper ones afterwards. See photo. The head guy was apologetic and claimed he had never heard about the wheels needing to be replaced on their products. See Photo.

Good news: It took ten minutes to replace them, thanks to the video posted on their website for a similar product. My much less expensive REI bag, the one with more miles and a much lower price tag, served me well during these events.

Bad news: Cost $ and took a long time to get the right wheels. Their website still doesn't list correct replacement part.

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac 22:

ARRIVED BROKEN! For almost $300 I expect good quality. Packed it up for my first trip and went to pack the outside zipper pocket and it was broken! I called customer service (if you can even call it that) and they didn't care at all. I had to talk to THREE different people before someone even apologized. Seems once you have these expensive bags you really need to fight to get them fixed. It's a shame because I was so excited about this luggage. For a BRAND NEW bag they wanted me to send it out for a warranty zipper fix and be without it for who knows how many weeks. I had to fight to get a replacement instead of the "fixed" broken bag. So terrible, I wouldn't recommend to anyone based on quality of the product and lack of customer service and I'm considering returning my entire purchase.

Great bag but renmember it's small. It's built really well. Lightweight so you get the maximum amount if stuff in there but not enough room for me as I pack loosely for my personal convenience.

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac 22:

I just bought this bag to replace a much older (10+ years) almost identical Eagle Creek bag that is still travel worthy. I replaced the older bag because I never actually used the convertible backpack features and wanted the couple of extra cubic inches of space you get without the backpack. The older bag is not my only other Eagle Creek product -- this company is absolutely the best bag maker on the market. I have destroyed other brands (sometimes I need a second bag for longer trips) with much less use.

This is a great bag: It has lots of well organized space, is soft enough to squeeze into tight quarters, it is light yet extremely durable. Eagle Creek seem to have figured out how to keep the wheels on their bags intact and functional -- something that other makers find elusive. The zippers on Eagle Creek bags might eat a stray item, but the zipper bounces back. I love the coat carry feature: Very thoughtful.

Great bag. Very well made, I can not say enough good about it. Absolute bang for the buck.

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac 22:

I travel weekly for work and this is a terrific bag. It fits in all overhead bins except for a few small puddle jumpers. I would buy this bag again in a heartbeat. If I could change anything it would be the expandable zipper and the top compartment zipper. They should be the same thick gauge, durable zipper as the main compartment. Instead, they are the cheap thin zippers. Also the bottle opener/key chain should be secured by a small carabiner or other mechanism that better latches it to the bag.
