Great bag! This was a no-brainer for me, as I love Eagle Creek. My bigger, check size bag is the FlipSwitch and it's terrific. So when I wanted a new carry-on, I chose the Tarmac and I love it. Lightweight, lots of capacity and very sturdy and durable. I am a travel writer and travel and write for a living, so having the right gear is of utmost importance. You can't go wrong with this bag!

The wheels on my bag disintegrated. Eagle Creek's website has some replacement parts and nice videos for how to replace wheels on most models. Unfortunately, the wheels for this model were not listed. It took several go-rounds with their customer service to find the right wheels. This concluded when I sent the wrong ones back and included the disintegrated wheels. They sent the proper ones afterwards. See photo. The head guy was apologetic and claimed he had never heard about the wheels needing to be replaced on their products. See Photo.

Good news: It took ten minutes to replace them, thanks to the video posted on their website for a similar product. My much less expensive REI bag, the one with more miles and a much lower price tag, served me well during these events.

Bad news: Cost $ and took a long time to get the right wheels. Their website still doesn't list correct replacement part.

Resistant zippers give this 3 stars...

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac Carry-On Suitcase:

I haven't actually been able to travel with the suitcase yet - so I'm only rating it based on testing it out at home. I'm giving it 3 stars for now because the zippers definitely feel very sticky and resistant. I hope they will move more easily with time. Other than the zippers, the bag seems very nice...

This is now the 6th one I have bought. But the reason is.....I love this so much every member of my family now owns one. My last child graduated from college, and now he finally gets his suitcase too! Turned into a family tradition.

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac Carry-On Suitcase:

I want to state that I am reviewing the newest version of this bag. I have to make a disclaimer that I have not used this bag for airline travel. I measured my bag, and it should meet domestic US airline carry-on requirements provided the expansion zipper is not used or the bag is excessively stuffed.

I have used my bag for a few short car trips. I can easily fit a few days of clothes inside my carry-on without having to use the expansion zipper. The interior pockets provide enough organization, but the pockets do not restrict how one packs if they do not want to use them. The materials used throughout the bag appear to be very durable. All of the exterior zippers are puncture resistant. The telescoping handle operates smoothly and feels very sturdy. The wheels roll easily. The suitcase is very lightweight. I am beyond pleased with this purchase.

    Way too small!

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac Carry-On Suitcase:

The construction and esthetics of the item are outstanding. However, this item should be advertised as an overnight bag, not a suitcase. Way too small for anything but an overnight. Unfortunately had to return.

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac Carry-On Suitcase:

I purchased my first Tarmac Carry on in September. Since then it has traveled from NH to CA, Spain, and Israel. It is well designed, can carry a lot, and is easy to maneuver (even when packed to the gills). I like the coat gadget for securing items draped on top of the suitcase. I had no problems being allowed to carry on the 22inch in both Europe and the Middle East. I liked the bag so much I bought a second one as a holiday gift for my husband.

Comments about Eagle Creek Tarmac Carry-On Suitcase:

about 6 years ago, I bought my first Tarmac roll-aboard. This year i decided that it needed replacement. Under Eagle's No Matter What warranty, I was able get it replaced with a new one.
It's great! strong zippers all around. A couple extra clips and straps that weren't part of my old one. Redesigned internals to give a little better space control. All in all, a great bag. I expect that this lasts through my next 500K miles with no issues.
If there's a small downside, it is actually just a little smaller than my original bag. I think it's in the depth, not sure. But when I fill it with my normal travel things for the week, I have to work to get them all in.

BTW, I pack heavy. Here's a typical list for a 4 day trip. Toiletry bag (12"x6"x5"), 4 pairs of slacks, 4 dress shirts/sweaters, 2 sports jackets, 5 underwear, 7 t-shirts, 2pr Dress shoes, 1pr running shoes, 2 belts, gym outfit,

Try that in a normal roll-aboard.

I looked everywhere for something that would hold similar volumes. Didn't find anything that seriously competed. I travel 100% of the time, so carrying the right bag is critical to my mindset. I'll stay with Eagle Creek.
