Hike and Travel Pack

Use it on weekend backpacking trips, long weekend trips, and even a 10 day trip overseas. This is my go-to pack when I want something bigger than a little daypack, but smaller than a giant rolling luggage bag that needs to be checked-in.

Best Set of Features in a Travel Backpack

I just needed a large enough Travel Backpack for week long trips on school holidays, weekend and longer backpacking and camping trips with friends, my study abroad semester, and some vacation trips with friends. I liked this Pack because it was a carry-on for airplanes, large enough to carry all of my stuff, had a separate day pack, and a rain cover for those rainy hikes and for storage. It even had a pouch for my water bag for hiking. This was like the swiss army knife of backpacks. It did everything I needed for adventures, hikes, trips home, study abroad, and road trips with friends.

Incredibly faulty from the factory.

Straight from the factory this bag had huge flaws. I spoke with the warrenty department and they admited to being well aware of these flaws but shipped it out anyways. After a while of speaking with them I eventually got the bag fixed at their warrenty department but that should not be the case when buying a product brand new. Therefore I will be reviewing the product based on how I received it. After reading multiple other reviews I noticed that other people had the exact same problems. They made a faulty prodcut and instead of fixing them they sold them as new. Due to the backbrace being the wrong size (Too large)the pouch holding it would not close. This made the bag fall into itself and look very sloppy and fall over. The other problem this caused is pinching the water bladders straw which made it impossible to suck on. The Good: It looks good, stylish, and the zippers are tough! It is comfortable and when it wasn't failing I could carry this bag for days. It packs a lot of stuff and works well with packing cubes. Overall this bag had a lot of potential but in the end this bags fails. Period. Would NOT recommend!!!

Great for Backpacking AND Adventure Travel

I was looking for a Travel Backpack -- one that I could take on extended travels as my primary luggage. The Deviate was perfect -- it holds a lot, is carry-on sized, has a removable daypack, and the pack and zippers are lockable. I've used it for a couple of weekend trips, and am planning for a 10 day vacation soon. In addition, I cross shopped it with regular hiking backpacks like ones from REI, Gregory, and Osprey, and found that this bag was very comparable, so I'm planning on using it for weekend or 3-4 day camping trips too.

Poor Quality

I really want to love this product. It is versatile, practical, and fairly comfortable. However, it is poor quality. Poor quality products really agitate me as I'm sure they do most consumers and while there are some good things about this pack, the fact that it exhibits seemingly poor craftsmanship is enough for me to give it only 1 star. Poor stitching. Several areas exhibit loose, undone, or inadequate stitching. Specifically, the stitching on the elastic bands on top of the external mesh pockets coming undone. I have had the product for less than 3 months. It doesn't matter if the rest of the pack is good if part of it is deteriorating after less than 3 months. Why should I have confidence in the rest of the pack lasting? Even if there are never any other deficiencies with the rest of the pack I will have a pack that has deficient external mesh pockets. Sure the product is covered by Eagle Creek's No-Matter-What warranty, but do you really want to have a product repaired or replaced just to have it fail on you in the same way after another 3 months? You're essentially just increasing the original purchase price of the product by paying for shipping to the repair facility even if they cover the cost of shipping the repaired/replaced product back to you. When you pay this much for something you expect it to last, especially longer than 3 months. Epic disappointment.

Solid bag, great buy

Well made bag. the back panel provides good support. It is narrow which is nice for traveling.
