One of the better packable duffels out there

Been hunting for a lightweight packable duffel to stash in the suitcase outbound, and to chuck into the cargo hold on flights home, to carry all manner of bulky loose items like shoes or dirty clothes or jackets. Primary requirements were for it to be light in weight, small in packed volume and durable for check-in. Bonus is the generous 45l volume, and locking zippers. There's been a lot that has been said, so let's focus on this whole check-in business. Material is 150D poly ripstop, which is very light in weight, and maybe perhaps a bit too light for long-term air travel. I guess for dirty clothes it's fine, but I would've been more comfortable with a slightly heavier fabric weight. Other options out there were way too heavy - like canvas, and didn't allow for compact packability; or too light, like parachute material. I feel that maybe 200-210D would be the sweet spot, many outdoor backpacks are that weight, and they seem to be well sturdy enough. The trade-off would be a bit more weight/volume, but honestly a hundred more grams than the 255g won't make a huge difference, and neither would the extra couple of cubic inches, but it would give plenty peace of mind that nothing's falling out in the cargo hold or conveyor belt. As mentioned earlier, being able to slip this over the handle of a wheeled luggage bag would be a welcome addition, and perhaps a padded velcro handle that can gather all the straps up and keep them together. We'll see how this bag performs in the next couple of Asia-Europe legs, hopefully the material would hold well, but in the meantime I'm very happy with the weight and volume, both packed and unpacked.

I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO ADD "Back slip panel " function

I purchase many many of eatle creek items, My first purchase is 1997, since then, I now have more than 50 items of eagle creek large and small items. About a packable tote, I have 2 of them and I also used to have the old model too. The old model I like and still use because it is more durable. This new model gets thinner material and makes it ligher and smaller when packed. That makes it easier to put it into a bagpack or suitecase. This is very very helpful for daily grocery as well as trip both purpose. BUT, I HAVE A BIG FAVOR. I REALLY WOULD LIKE EAGLE CREEK TO ADD "Back slip panel " CAPACITY. This because when I use it together with suite case luggage, it is easy to slip down and drag it on the ground and make a big hole since the material is very thin. I put 4 of 5 because I really want to add back slip function, otherwise it is 5. If put "Back slip function", I would like to buy more than 1 for Packable Tote and Duffel. I even use this Packable Duffel and Tote as a gift to my family relatives.

I ordered this duffel for my extended Europe trip. I carried it with me just in case I did too much shopping. I didn't end up using it. However, I like it because it's very light and the bright color (red) makes it easy to be retrieved off the conveyor belt. So, I don't know how durable it is gonna be. But,I am writing this review to let product designers at Eagle Creek know that, for the next generation of this bag, they should add a back slip for stacking on the handle of rolling luggage.

I would not buy again!

No instructions in how to refold and no help from Eagle Creek customer support--in fact, no support.

Light but Dusable

I ALWAYS carry this as a "back up" bag. I have flown many International miles with this bag. I have checked the bag on the hold with my non-fragile items; without fear of opening or tearing. I carry it in case I buy extra items and need more space in my luggage. This way, if I find a bargain, I buy it without fear of overloading my luggage. Also it works perfectly as a weekender or for day trips when travelling.

Great duffel

Haven't used yet. I will be using for the first time next week. I seemed to be very lightweight and sturdy.

Not just for souvenirs!

For airline travel I use 1 carry-on bag/backpack and 1 personal item. I purchased the Eagle Creek duffel as a very lightweight (9-oz) bag so that I could travel hands-free and carry it over my shoulder easily. I used it this past week for a 5-day business trip and it worked great! I used Eagle Creek packing cubes for my clothes and accessories, put them in the duffel and was on my way. The bag fit everything I took for the 5 day trip and held up fine. The material was strong enough. I anticipate getting much use out of this bag. You can fold it up into the side pocket if you do wish to use it as an extra bag to bring home purchases from your trips. I, however, am quite pleased with it being my primary carry-on. One suggested enhancement for this design would be a clip on shoulder strap rather than one sewn into the sides.
